Another example of illustration, this one in ink. It's been a long time since I've done just an ink piece as far as illustration goes.
Bennie and Chace Koffman (Jaeger Koffman's younger brother and uncle respectively), after a separation of a good twenty years. Bennie is not grateful to see his uncle again, he just wants to be left alone to see to his plants in his greenhouse. Chace has just had a lifetime of making a lot of mistakes, and wants to make some kind of amends with family.
Bennie's response: I dont want you to talk to me! I dont want you here. I dont even like you!
I echo Kristi's comment about the clock tower. Also, I'd like to see Bennie's chin. Because the background is so dark, we can't see it and he's starting to look like a muppet! Very nice, otherwise. I love Chase's expression!

Just because I draw comics doesn't make me two dimensional.
Anyhoo. You've done a pretty good job -- I really like how you've gotten the expressions down. Chace really does look surprised for a guy who doesn't seem like he'd ever be, and Bennie looks purty durn annoyed with him. ='D
(i keep getting the feeling that bennie doesn't want chace touching any of his plants, he might break 'em )
Yeah, even if he is surprised, Chace does his best not to look it.
And no, Bennie doesn't really like anybody touching his plants, he's very particular with his babies. And his uncle isn't well known for doing things other than destroying things, so no. Definitely not him.

I have to say... As much as I know the clock tower is an important feature of the local landscape... it detracts from this image by muddying the distinction between the foreground and the background. I would suggest silhouetting it in the same manner as the otehr buildings. Other than that, great image.
It still weirds me out how much Bennie reminds me of my late uncle, tho....
The Tower did end up a lot brighter than I'd intended, and when I was deciding how to handle the buildings closer to the foreground I completely neglected to include the clock tower.
Bennie is the least distinctive of his family, I'd say. He looks like a lot of people. Marlon was saying he looks like Thrasher too.

It seems that if a plant in a story has to be made up, it becomes very recognizable for some reason.
